There is a buzzer in the kitchen that kept buzzing randomly during the remodel weekend. It took us a whole day to figure out what made it buzz. We assumed it was the back door bell which didn’t work.

Turns out we found a buzzer under the carpet in the dining room.

The buzzer can swing from each end of the room and sits under the feet of the “head of the table”. When it was time for the next course or drinks to be refilled, the servant could be summons to the dining room without letting the dinner guests know that a signal had been given.

The chandelier is being held up higher by a carabiner. Classy. I have a feeling its been there through a few owners.

I’ve been told that Gracie made the dining room her bedroom when she could no longer ascend the staircase. It makes sense the chandelier needed to be higher if no table was in the room to avoid walking into it.

It appears there may have been some water damage in the corner that was repaired with plywood rather than hardwood before they laid the carpet.

The only thing we did in this room was rip up the carpet. We plan to properly repair the hardwoods and change the color from red to something a little less dramatic.
