The master suite consists of 3 rooms and 2 closets–bedroom, sitting room, and 3/4 bathroom.
The bathroom and sitting room were previously the servant’s quarters. The bedroom was walled off and a room. It appears the bedroom was original and the sitting room/bathroom were additions. There is an external brick wall separating the bedroom from the sitting room.
Being two separate rooms makes more sense as to why the master suite has 2 entrance doors next to each other and two closets.
We removed the carpet in the bathroom to reveal 70s era tiles. The shower is just big enough that you need to pirouette to get clean. We tried installing a normal shower head only to have it shoot out the door.
The whole master suite will be remodeled and reconfigured to include a walk-in closet and a modern bathroom.
There is a small closet off the bathroom that contains the upstairs furnace. We found another surprise in there too! Check out the next post for the secrets of the furnace closet.
