HAROLD ADDISON PETERSON – Aug. 6, 1962
Harold Addison Peterson, who had lived at 403 North Second street for the past Year and a half, died at 8:15 a.m., Sunday, at the Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa City, Ia. He had been in poor health the last ten years. Born at Winfield, Ia., August 1, 1896, he was the son of frank A. and E. Leota (Pixley) Peterson. He came to Monmouth With his family when he was quite small, and his father had operated —(unreadable)—-

to Grace Gawthrop took place December 25, 1925, in Monmouth. A retired merchant, he was an employee of the Illinois Power Company for 17 years, and had owned and operated the Peterson Electrical Company for over 20 years.

Mr. Peterson was a member of the Second U. P. church; past president of the Lions club; past commander of Marion B. Fletcher Post of the American Legion and had earned the Silver Beaver award of Boy Scouts. Hunting, boating and outdoor life were his hobbies and he was also a member of the Honey Creek Bar hunting club. Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers, Ralph of Anaheim, Calif., Roy at Sterling and Robert in Mexico City, Mexico, a sister, Mrs. Howard (Eileen) James of Monmouth and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, at the Second U. P. church, with Dr. Robert Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Monmouth cemetery. The family will be at the Turnbull Funeral Home from 7″30util 9 o’clock this evening. A memorial fund is being established for Monmouth hospital, for which donations may be left at Turnbull’s.

Honorary bearers at the funeral services for Harold A. Peterson, who cned Sunday
at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Ia., yesterday at3 o’clock at the second U. P. church, were all past commanders of the Marion B. Fletcher Post of the American Legion. Dr. Robert Gibson officiated and Richard Johnson was organist. Interment was in Monmouth cemetery where Legion services were held. Darrol Davies was in charge of the firing squad and the V.F.W. furnished the colors. Pallbearers were Robert Peterson, Roy Peterson, Gary Gawthrop, James German, Howard Cooper and Bud Ross, with Dr. Garrett Thiessen and Heime Loya acting as ushers at the church.
